Welcome to the Runcorn State High School Chaplaincy Service home page.

The Runcorn SHS Chaplaincy Service exists to build relationships in the school community that provide care and support and conveying Christian values and beliefs.

This is accomplished through a variety of ways including:

  • Adventure Based Learning (Connect & No Limits)

  • Pastoral Care & Counselling

  • Computer Game Competitions (Game Guru)

  • Human Relationships Education & Religious Education

  • Spiritual Discussion Groups

  • Leadership Development Programs

  • Camps

  • Brekky Club

Why do we need chaplains?

Everyday, our kids face immense pressures. Apart from school-related issues, they are also faced with issues like relational problems, peer pressure, erratic emotions, drugs & substance misuse, bullying, developing a self-identity and growing self-esteem. They cannot do it alone.

That’s why Runcorn SHS has an experienced team at Student Services who offer support, help, care and guidance for our students. The Chaplaincy is a vital member of the Student Services team in caring for and helping our kids through their tough moments.

Chaplain: Pastor Les Gomes.

Chaplaincy School Ministry Team:

  • Scott Mayes (Youth Pastor - Runcorn Christian Church)

  • Aaron Lee (Youth leader - Sunnybank District Baptist)

  • Phil Lep (Christian Outreach Center)

  • Lisa Elliott (Youth Leader - Sunnybank Uniting Church)

  • Chris Goode (Garden City Christian Church)

  • Ash & Shelley Langfield (Youth Pastors - South City Church)

The Chaplain works in conjunction with other student services staff such as Guidance Officers, Behavioural Management Teachers, Deputy Principals, Year Level Coordinators and Special Needs Teachers to be a frontline force against drugs, depression and suicide in teenagers.
