Not every
challenge a student faces at school is academic in nature. In fact,
many times young people face challenges that have nothing to do with their
studies. Challenges can often involve family, friends, spiritual or
emotional issues. This is where the Chaplaincy fits in. The
Chaplaincy provides support for young people as they wrestle with some of
life's bigger questions.
This occurs
through personal appointments, public forums, small discussion groups,
leadership development as well as holiday camps.

Camps: The
Chaplaincy in conjunction with Scripture Union Qld encourages young people
to attend holiday camps. Different camps appeal to different interest
groups. There are surf camps, outback camps, computer camps, trail
bike riding camps, schoolies camps as well as music, dance & drama camps.

All camps are
drug & alcohol free with more than adequate adult supervision provided by
experienced youth leaders. Students are also given opportunities to
explore spiritual issues in a non threatening environment.

Acts
29
is the name of the Christian group that operates at the school. The book of
Acts in the Bible records the history of the early church.
It has only 28
chapters.
The students decided upon the name "Acts 29" because they wanted to be a
part of the next chapter of church history. They wanted to be a part of
making history rather than just reading about it.
Acts 29 has three main divisions:

Acts 29 Leadership Group:
a discipleship group where students who are serious about spiritual issues
can learn what it means to be a Christian in the modern world. The leaders
of Acts 29 are not just leaders by label; they are leaders by virtue of
their performance. To become a leader of Acts 29, students must agree to
accept certain responsibilities.
Chris Goode, maths teacher at Runcorn SHS, oversees the leadership
group. Many students have been impacted through his passionate
presentations of the responsibilities of Christian leadership.
Acts 29 Small Discussion
Groups: are,
as the name suggests, small groups of students that talk about life's big
questions and spiritual issues. They normally run for five lunch times
each term. These are small discussion groups for students led by students.
Acts 29 Student Prayer
Group: Open
to all Runcorn High students, this is a meeting where Acts 29 leaders and
other Christians pray for the wellbeing and direction of the school. It is
held every Tuesday lunchtime and starts off with a devotional from an Acts
29 leader.
Acts 29
also hosts public forums that explore spiritual issues in a panel-style
format.
